2019 Petite Sirah

2019 Petite Sirah

This 100% Amador County grown Petite Sirah is a great rich and full bodied red. The silky tannins give great texture, mouth feel, and long dry finish, while still allowing the bright fruit to shine through. It has dark inky color with a balanced tasting profile of dark chocolate and rich plum fruit.

My wife and I are on constant search for the perfect wine wherever we go. We had the 2018 Petite Syrah (which happens to be my favorite grape) at the Brickhouse in Jackson, CA. This is one of the very best PS I ever had (our current favorites are from Gelfand and Venteux, both from Paso Robles). While the latter ones are unctuous and beautifully complex, they also retain some residual sweetness, which is a negative for my palate. Not so here: The Paul J. is almost completely fermented giving it an elegant dryness that reminds one of the Southern Rhone wines. But the real stunner here is the pronounced cassis note that is very precisely delineated without making the wine "jammy" in any way. The result is almost perfumey in the best sense. The palate is rich and not boozy in any way, and leads to a long but not cloying finish. This is an enormously satisfying wine at a perfect price/quality ratio: highly recommended!
